Most massage guns come with a handful of attachments, and it is not always clear which one to use. Here is a simple guide to the six heads that come with our 30 Speed Massage Gun (the 20 Speed set is very similar): what each one is shaped for, where to use it, and how to get started safely.

Massage gun heads guide: ball, flat, spade, fork, bullet and mini flat head and where to use each

1. Ball Head: The One to Start With

The round ball head is the best all-round attachment. Use it on large muscles like the thighs, glutes, calves and arms. If you only use one head, use this one.

2. Flat Head: Gentle, All-Over Use

The flat head spreads the pressure over a wider area, so it feels softer. It works well on the chest, quads and back, and it is a good choice for beginners and older adults.

3. Spade Head: Broad Areas

The wide, wedge-shaped spade head covers large flat areas like the upper back, shoulders and hamstrings. Glide it in long, slow strokes instead of holding it in one place.

4. Fork Head: Targeted Passes

The U-shaped fork head is made for the muscles on both sides of the spine. Let the two prongs sit on the muscles, never on the spine itself. It also works along the calves.

5. Bullet Head: Small Spots

The narrow bullet head focuses on a small area, such as the soles of the feet or a single tight spot. Use it on a low speed and only for a few seconds at a time.

6. Mini Flat Head: Smaller Muscles

The small flat head suits smaller muscles like the forearms, hands and the tops of the shoulders. On the 20 Speed Massage Gun, the soft cushion head plays a similar gentle role.

Three Simple Rules

  • Start low: begin on the lowest speed and increase only if it feels good.
  • Keep it short: about 1 to 2 minutes per area and 10 to 15 minutes per session.
  • Stay on muscle: avoid bones, joints, the spine, the front and sides of the neck, and the back of the knee.

Important: general information, not medical advice. Check with your doctor first if you are pregnant, have a pacemaker, take blood thinners, have a history of blood clots, osteoporosis, recent surgery or any medical condition.
